What Classes Do We Teach?

  • Ballet is a beautiful and expressive dance style that nurtures grace, confidence, and a love of movement. This is the route for tutus and pointe shoes.

Our ballet classes follow the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) syllabus, providing a supportive and structured approach that develops strength, coordination, posture, and musicality. Ballet forms the foundation for all dance styles.

  • Lyrical
Lyrical dance uses gentle movements from ballet and jazz. It is a soft and flowing style focused on expression and musicality.

    Contemporary
Contemporary dance encourages dancers to explore unique and diverse ways of moving. It combines strength, balance, and creativity, using foundations from ballet and modern styles.

  • Jazz dance is a dynamic style that is focused on coordination and confidence. Dancers learn sharp and energetic movements to upbeat music.

  • Our Tippy Toes and Preschool classes are a flexible and joyful introduction to dance designed to build confidence, coordination, and a love of movement.

Through music, imagination, and well researched age-appropriate pedagogy, children explore basic dance steps while developing balance, listening skills, and social confidence.

  • Built on foundational ballet technique, our adult and open age dance classes focus on enjoying movement in a relaxed and supportive environment.

Designed for fitness, flexibility and skill acquisition, these classes are built for both returning dancers and newcomers alike.

My love of dance began early and has shaped much of my life — as a student, a teacher, and now as the director of this school. For me, dance has always been more than performance; it is about discipline, creativity, belonging, and the confidence that comes from learning something well.

Broken Hill Academy of Dance is a family-run business, built alongside my husband, Seth, and shaped by raising our three children here in Broken Hill. Like many local families, we think a lot about giving our kids opportunities to explore interests and passions. What we couldn’t quite find for our own family was a dance space that felt like the right fit for our children — grounded in what we value as both educators and parents.

And now for the not-very-subtle but entirely necessary part: why I’m actually qualified to do this.

Alongside my passion for the performing arts, I have danced for most of my life and have been teaching since my early teenage years. Over that time, I’ve taught across a wide range of styles and ability levels — from babies and beginners through to senior students and competitive teams. I have trained with the Royal Academy of Dance as a ballet teacher, and conducted numerous workshops with industry professionals.

I have choreographed countless routines and showcases, and I’m proud of the varied paths my former students have gone on to take. These include invitations to join Australian Ballet School programs, national competition titles, and professional performance work, including touring productions.

Complementing my dance background, I also bring formal training in education and pedagogy, which shapes how I approach teaching and learning in the studio.

I’m excited to share my passion and commitment with our local community and to offer a dance space built on care, clarity, and respect.
